Summary :
SAP Note details enhancement with Oracle 10g's "Cross-Platform Transportable Database". This offline feature extends the "Transportable Tablespace" capability allowing whole database migration by copying datafiles across different operating systems, provided they share the same endian format. Utilization requires databases to be stopped during operation. Guidance on this process is thoroughly documented in Oracle’s Database Backup and Recovery Advanced User's Guide 10g and Metalink document 414878.1. However, usage caution is advised as converting SYSTEM tablespace and undo segments datafiles exclusively may retain old platform IDs on others, potentially causing future complications. Bugs #7594309 and #8712467 are open with Oracle for resolutions and workarounds.
