Diagnosis The average utilization of all of the CPUs in the host system. Theutilization includes both user and system usage of the CPU; it thereforeprovides a correct view of the intensity of usage of the CPU and theamount of reserve computing capacity. Procedure A persistently high CPU utilization suggests that the computing capacityof the CPU(s) are limiting the performance of the system as a whole. Many factors can contribute to overly high CPU utilization; an analysisis therefore necessary. If the problem is simply that there are toomanyprocesses active on the host system, then possible correctivemeasures include moving CPU-intensive program runs to off-peak times orto other host systems, dedicating the host system to database use, if itis the database server, and increasing the number of or upgrading theCPU(s). Low CPU utilization in conjunction with poor SAP system performanceindicates that there is another bottleneck in the system that is causingthe CPU to wait for long periods. |
