Diagnosis This monitoring tree element (MTE) reports the response time for thedialog service of a specific transaction, a specific client, ortransaction by client. This is the service for interactive processing,as opposed to the background or the update service. The dialog response time measures the processing time at the applicationserver. It includes all processing time consumed for the processing ofan dialog step (starting with a user action and ending with the system'sresponse to the action), including database processing time. It does notinclude network transmission time or frontend processing time. Thevalues that you see here are averaged across dialog steps. You may see small variations in the statistics reported here as comparedto those reported in the analysis method associated with this MTE. Thisvariation is due to the finer granularity of the statistics in theanalysis method. The averaging of the values in the alert monitor canresult in small differences in values. Procedure An alert here indicates a performance problem with your system. Yourusers are not receiving the prompt response from the system, asreflected in the thresholds for response time. High response times are a general symptom of performance problems. Therecan be many different causes of the problem; a careful analysis istherefore required. You should first check that the application serveris not overloaded, as measured for example by CPU performance, systempaging and dialog work process statistics. Another possible bottleneckis the database; you should check that the database is performingsatisfactorily. Procedure for System Administration
