Diagnosis You are using a function that calculates thetarget costs> in the currentstandard cost estimate> for thematerial. Using this information, the system can calculate thefollowing data:
- Work in process> (WIP) for the confirmed
WIP quantities>
- Scrap for the confirmed scrap quantities
- Variances between the target costs and the
control costs> However, the cost estimate for material &v1& in plant &v2& is:
- Missing
- Not released
- Not valid on &v3&
- Not saved as an itemization>
- Not valid at the time WIP> or
variances> were calculated
- Not saved in the controlling area currency
This can be the case when the controlling area currency is not the sameas the company code currency. Since variances are always calculated inthe controlling area currency, the cost estimate must be saved incontrolling area currency (refer to "Procedure"). The settlement type> in the order determineswhen the cost estimate must be valid.
- If cumulative variances are calculated (variances for the entire life
of the order), the cost estimate must be valid on the day of finaldelivery (status DLV) or, if no final delivery has taken place, on theday the order becomes technically completed (status TECO), or otherwiseon the day the order is entered.
- If the variances are calculated by period, the cost estimate must be
valid on the last day of the period. If the target costs are calculated directly in a report, the costestimate must be valid on the last day of the reporting time frame. Note that you can only valuate work in process and scrap at targetcosts on the basis of a product cost estimate > with quantity structure. It is not possible to valuate work inprocess and scrap using a unit cost estimate>.System Response Because no target costs were calculated, the system cannot do thefollowing:
- It cannot display a report on the target costs.
- It cannot split the difference between the planned costs and the
control costs into different variancecategories> when it calculates the variances. Instead, the difference is updated as aremaining variance> only.
- It cannot valuate the scrap and the work in process.
Procedure If you want to calculate variances such asinput quantity variances> orresource-usage variances>, proceedas follows: Check the validity period of the cost estimate. Proceed> Check the costing view in the master record of the material beingmanufactured. Proceed> If necessary, release the cost estimate for the material. Proceed>
- Create a new cost estimate for the material, and save the cost estimate
in itemized form by turning on the Itemization> field in theUpdate parameters> dialog box. Proceed>
- Calculate the WIP or variances again.
If you are working in reporting, select a report that does not refer tothe target costs.
