SAP Message BOM260 - New alternative is not allowed

Diagnosis
You want to extend a BOM by onealternative (seemultiple BOM). This is notpossible for one of the following reasons.

  • Since this BOM is a variant
    • BOM this is no longer possible.
    • You cannot create any alternatives in your system because multiple BOMs
      • have been set to inactive in Customizing.

      System Response
      The system cannot create an alternative.

      Procedure
      Check the material number and enter another material number ifnecessary to create a new variant.

      Procedure for System Administration
      Check whether alternatives are allowed in your SAP system. To do so,call up Customizing for bills of materials, and choose the activityControl Data for BOMs -> Set Modification Parameters. If theMultiple BOM is inactive parameter isselected, you cannot create any alternatives in your system.
