Diagnosis
Generally you can use * to repeat the entry of a value. Thissign acts as a place holder for the value entered last in the field.
You cannot use this sign in the very first item because no entries havebeen made to which the place holder can refer.

Procedure
Enter the first item completely. From the second line on you can use* to refer to the previous values.
