Diagnosis
You attempted to execute a function for a particular sub-list (basiclist, statistic or ranked list). To do this, you have to place thecursor on the desired sub-list. The current cursor position does notpermit identification of any statistic or ranked list. It either refersto a sub-list which you cannot access with the function you chose, orit points to the totals line of a statistic.

Procedure
Place the cursor on a line of the desired sub-list, but avoid blanklines, header lines and, in the case of statistics, totals lines.
Check that the function is valid for the sub-list, since some functionscannot be used in basic lists where the lines do not all have the samestructure (i.e. multiple line lists).
