Diagnosis
The decision as to whether a characteristic is used as a segment-levelcharacteristic should be based on the anticipated number of values forthe characteristic. You should not use characteristics with anextremely large number of values (for example, consecutive numbers suchas the transaction number or contract number).
Since the actual number of characteristic values is not known at thispoint in time, the proposal created here is based on the properties ofthe characteristic:

• Characteristics that have neither a check table nor fixed values are
not used as segment-level characteristics.

• Characteristics with fixed values are used.


• Characteristics with individual value maintenance (a generated check
table) are used.

• Characteristics with a delivered check table are used if the check
table does not belong to delivery class A (application data).

• The company code (a required characteristic in the analysis structure)
is always used as a segment-level characteristic.
