Diagnosis
In the standard SAP System, default settings are defined for themodification parameters and for BOM maintenance. You can change thesevalues for your company (in the customizing functions for 'BOMs' andperform steps Define modification parameters and Definedefault settings.
The modification parameters are generally one-time settings for BOMmanagement, which you should not normally change once you start usingthe functions for BOMs.

System Response
The system checks whether these settings are defined and consistent.

Procedure
For one of the following fields, either no value is maintained, or thesettings are not consistent:

• Modification parameter: Unit of measure 'piece'

Please note that this unit determines the base unit of measure (BOMheader) or the component unit of measure (item).

Document structure
Standard BOM (configurable BOM)
Component unit of measure for:
Text item
Document item
Non-stock item without a material master record
