During applying support package on NetWeaver NW 7.0 JAVA system JAVA Support Packages Manager (JSPM) tool cannot start. In the current log directory of JSPM tool /usr/sap/<SID>/JC<xx>/j2ee/JSPM/log is generated Trouble Ticket log, containing the following error:

Cannot initialize application data.
Error detecting instance host using path to the profile <drive>\usr\sap\<SID>\SYS\profile\<SID>_J<xx>_<HOSTNAME>. Possible reason: wrong name syntax. Expected syntax is: SID_INSTANCENAME_HOST.

Reason and Prerequisites

The error exists in JSPM NW 7.0 SP08 or lower SP-s. It occurs during JSPM initialization, if the system has more than one remote dialog instances. JSPM can not properly process dialog instance's profiles.


Update JSPM to at least NW 7.0 SP08 patch level 1 or higher.

1.Download from Service Market Place NW 7.0 SPS8 patch 1 or higher JSPM SCA and copy it in the local inbox directory (by default /usr/sap/trans/EPS/in).
2.Start RemoteGui script from /usr/sap/<SID>/<CI>/SDM/program
3.Select to deploy downloaded in 1) JSPM SCA.
4.Stop RemoteGui.
5.If your system is Unix\Linux based change the permissions of /usr/sap/<SID>/JC<xx>/j2ee/JSPM/go script in order <SID>adm to be able to execute it.
6.Start JSPM.
